There is nothing like a shining new year to motivate us cleaning out our wardrobes, isn't it? We always encourage our clients to let their wardrobes breathe. An organised space will not only allow you to see exactly what you have and inspire outfit combinations, but also in Feng Shui it is believed to bring good health and luck when making your space neat and open.

It may sound like a daunting task for many. We get it. As long as you follow our tips below to break down your wardrobe project into bite size chunks, you may find it much easier.

Break Down Your Wardrobe Task In 7 Days With One Focus Each Day

Day 1: before you start, we suggest that you reserve your coat hangers so that the open end faces you.

Day 2 - Day 7: pull out a dozen items and decide whether you want to keep them all. Focus on one category per day (eg. your outerwear, leisurewear, underwear, shoes...etc). Your judgement should be based on:

1) Whether they are the right colour for you;

2) Do they fit your body shape and current size;

3) Can you still have opportunities to wear them in your current life occasions;

4) Are they still in good condition;

5) Do you still enjoy wearing them

🔆 Don't forget your make-up storage too! Most cosmetics have an indication of how long to keep them after being opened. Also remember to give your make-up brushes a good clean too.

🔆 Also replacing your hangers with good-quality ones. They will help your wardrobe maintenance much more easily and effectively.

Tips For The Undecided Items

Place a big bag in the bottom of your wardrobe for any items that you're not 100% sure about. Coming back to them afterwards- if you haven't missed them for six months, now it is the time to send them to the charity shops, or re-sell them at second hand shops and websites. Check out Hong Kong secondhand shop map here.

  More and more secondhand shops emerge in Hong Kong. They help promote sustainable lifestyle, and facilitate the re-use and re-cycle the pre-loved items. Image: The Hula

Re-organise The Wardrobe

After you work through the whole wardrobe, you should be able to see what you have now. Organising these items into dresses, trousers, skirts, tops, jackets and coats. It will make your daily dressing process much easier if you organise each category by colour.

Make a note of any gaps in your wardrobe and cosmetics- it is a good idea to keep this on your phone so that you can refer to your note while going out shopping. This will also prevent you from making rash purchases.
