Dressing For Your Proportions

We often hear about body shapes. But do you know your proportions playing an equally important role to determine what clothes suit you better, and how you can wear your outfits to look better?

What Is Proportions?

Proportions is the length of your upper body compared to your lower body, and your waist placement. In our Style Consultation, we help our clients discover their proportions- whether they have high or low waist; short or long rise. This leads to proportionally whether they have short, average or long legs. Once understanding your body proportions, you'll be able to adjust how you wear your outfits to create a balanced body impression. The most flattering outfits are those in which the waist appears to be in the center of the torso.

Quick Way to Check Your Waistline As A Start

You are high-waisted if:

  • You generally look better when you choose not tuck in

  • You do not wear belts on your waistline

  • You have a short midriff (little space between your bust and natural waistline)

  • You often find mid-rise or low-rise trousers fitting better than the high-rise trousers

You are low-waisted if:

  • Your tops usually feel too short

  • Looking at yourself sideways, your bottom appears low

  • You feel more comfortable wearing high-rise than short-rise trousers

  • Often you find trousers legs are too long

  • You do not like yourself in full skirts
